How to use this calculator

  1. Select sex and enter age, weight, and height.
  2. Read kcal/day at rest (Mifflin–St Jeor).
  3. Pair with the TDEE page when you want activity multipliers.

Results explained

Basal metabolic rate is a resting burn estimate before exercise and NEAT. Mifflin–St Jeor is a widely used adult equation: 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age + 5 (male) or −161 (female). Muscle mass, hormones, illness, and measurement error move the true number; treat the output as a starting point for meal planning, not a medical metabolism diagnosis.

Quick reference: BMR

How the estimate is built

BMR = 10·kg + 6.25·cm − 5·age + s, where s = +5 (male) or −161 (female).

Example scenario

Female, 30y, 150 lb, 66 in → about 1,400 kcal/day BMR (rounded).

FAQ

Is BMR the same as TDEE?

No. BMR is resting. TDEE multiplies by activity to estimate maintenance calories across a normal day.

Should I eat exactly my BMR?

Usually no. Even sedentary days include some movement. Severe deficits need professional supervision.

Why not Harris–Benedict?

Mifflin–St Jeor tends to fit modern adult samples better. Cross-check with another formula if your coach prefers it.

Does body fat change BMR?

Yes in reality; this equation only uses sex, age, height, and weight. Two people with the same stats can differ.
