Results explained

The headline is the monthly principal & interest on price minus down plus financed fees. Tax, registration, insurance, marina slips, and winter storage are not in the payment.

Quick reference: boat / marine lending

Why boat notes often look different from car loans.

ItemNotes
CollateralBoats depreciate and survey/condition matter more than VIN alone
Down paymentOften higher than auto — used boats especially
Term lengthCan stretch longer than cars on newer / higher-value boats
ExtrasTrailer, electronics, and taxes may be separate cash needs

This tool amortizes a fixed-rate note only. Variable marine rates and balloon structures are not modeled.

How the estimate is built

Loan = price × (1 − down%) + fees. Monthly payment uses standard amortization: PMT(loan, APR, term months). Total interest = payment × months − loan.

Example scenario

A $45,000 boat with 20% down and $800 financed fees at 8.5% for 10 years finances about $36,800 and lands in the mid–$400s per month in this model.

FAQ

Is a boat loan the same as an auto loan?

Not always. Many marine lenders use different underwriting, down-payment norms, and terms than car notes — this calculator only does payment math on the numbers you enter.

Does the payment include insurance or slip fees?

No. Boat insurance, marina slips, haul-out, and winter storage sit outside principal & interest.

New vs used boat rates?

Used boats often see shorter max terms or higher rates. Plug the quote you actually receive.
