Planning lever: portion of (payor − recipient) used as an annual support sketch.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose annual or monthly incomes (same basis for both spouses).
  2. Enter payor and recipient income.
  3. Set marriage length and the difference-share lever.
  4. Read the monthly sketch and duration band — not an order.

Results explained

Idaho maintenance is factor-based under Idaho Code §32-705. This calculator uses a share of income difference and marriage-length duration fractions for stress-testing — not a court order.

Quick reference: Idaho maintenance bands

Educational duration ceilings — not a substitute for current statute analysis.

How the estimate is built

Annual sketch = diff% × max(0, payor − recipient). Monthly = annual ÷ 12. Duration sketch uses marriage-year × band factor.

Example scenario

Payor $135,000, recipient $48,000, 40% difference → gap $87,000 → ~$34,800/year (~$2,900/month). Fourteen-year marriage → mid-band duration sketch.

FAQ

Is there a Idaho guideline formula?

Idaho has no single statewide amount formula used here — courts weigh statutory factors (Idaho Code §32-705). This page is a planning sketch only.

Temporary vs long-term?

This page does not separate temporary orders from long-term awards — map types with your attorney.

Child support first?

Child support affects ability to pay. Model child support separately before locking maintenance.
