How to use this calculator

- Add or remove courses as needed.
- Read weighted GPA beside unweighted for comparison.
Results explained
The headline is weighted GPA on a 5.0-capable scale (AP/IB can reach 5.0). Unweighted uses a standard 4.0 letter map without boosts. Both are credit-weighted averages.
Quick reference: grade points
Default letter map used here (schools may differ).
| Grade | Points |
|---|---|
| A / A+ | 4.0 |
| A- | 3.7 |
| B+ | 3.3 |
| B | 3.0 |
| Honors boost | +0.5 (cap 5.0) |
| AP/IB boost | +1.0 (cap 5.0) |
College admissions often recalculate on their own scale.
How the estimate is built
Weighted GPA = Σ((letter points + weight boost) × credits) ÷ Σ credits. Unweighted omits the boost. Boosted points are capped at 5.0 per course.
Example scenario
A regular A (4.0), AP B+ (3.3+1.0=4.3), honors A- (3.7+0.5=4.2), and regular B (3.0), each 1 credit → weighted points 15.5 → weighted GPA 3.875; unweighted 3.5.
FAQ
Does every school weight AP the same?
No. Some use +1.0, some +0.5, some a 100-point scale. Match your student handbook.
Semester vs year credits?
Stay consistent — if a full year is 1.0 credit at your school, enter 1.0; if each semester is 0.5, enter 0.5 per row.
Pass/fail courses?
Usually excluded from GPA. Leave them out of this list.
