Results explained

Enter annual salary (default), hourly wage, or gross per paycheck — we derive gross per check from that and your pay frequency. The headline is estimated take-home for one period after TY2026 federal income tax, Illinois state income tax (flat 4.95% sketch), and Social Security and Medicare.

How the estimate is built

Annual gross = pay × periods. Federal taxable ≈ annual gross − pre-tax − federal standard deduction. Illinois taxable ≈ annual gross − pre-tax − exemption allowance. State tax ≈ 4.95% × Illinois taxable. FICA: 6.2% SS up to $184,500 + 1.45% Medicare. Per-check taxes = annual ÷ periods.

Example scenario

$3,200 biweekly, $200 pre-tax, single — annualize, subtract Illinois’s exemption-allowance sketch, apply 4.95% state tax, add federal liability ÷ 26 and FICA for net pay.

FAQ

Is Illinois still flat?

Yes. Illinois individual income tax is a flat 4.95% rate. This page uses an exemption-allowance sketch, not every IL credit.

Is this the same as my paycheck?

Not always. Employers use IRS Publication 15-T withholding methods, W-4 step settings, local taxes, benefits, and YTD FICA caps.

Do pre-tax 401(k) contributions reduce FICA?

Elective deferrals generally still face Social Security and Medicare. This calculator reduces income-tax wages only.

Tax year?

Tables are encoded for tax year 2026 (federal Rev. Proc. 2025-32 inflation adjustments and the Illinois pack noted on the page).
