How the estimate is built

Annual gross = pay × periods. Federal taxable ≈ gross − pre-tax − federal standard deduction. State taxable uses that state’s deduction/exemption sketch. Per-check taxes = annual ÷ periods. Net ≈ gross − pre-tax − federal − state − FICA.

Example scenario

Pick Texas (no wage tax) vs Illinois (4.95% flat) on the same $78k salary to see how the state line changes take-home.

FAQ

Why pick a state?

Federal + FICA is shared; state income tax is not. No-wage-tax states show $0 on the state line.

Is this ADP or your payroll?

No. It’s an educational liability sketch divided by pay periods.

We keep adding state packs. Use a nearby similar-tax state only as a rough stand-in.
