Results explained

Enter annual salary (default), hourly wage, or gross per paycheck — we derive gross per check from that and your pay frequency. The headline is estimated take-home for one period after TY2026 federal income tax, New York State graduated tax, NYC resident local tax (3.078%–3.876% sketch), and Social Security and Medicare.

How the estimate is built

Annual gross = pay × periods. Federal taxable ≈ annual gross − pre-tax − federal standard deduction. NY + NYC taxable ≈ annual gross − pre-tax − NY standard deduction sketch. State+city tax = NY brackets + NYC resident brackets. FICA: 6.2% SS up to $184,500 + 1.45% Medicare. Per-check taxes = annual ÷ periods.

Example scenario

$3,200 biweekly, $200 pre-tax, single — annualize, apply NY State brackets plus NYC resident local, add federal ÷ 26 and FICA for net pay. Compare to the statewide NY page to see the city line.

FAQ

Is this NYC resident tax?

Yes — an educational NYC resident local sketch stacked on New York State. Nonresident / Yonkers / MCTMT are not modeled.

Is this the same as my paycheck?

Not always. Employers use IRS Publication 15-T, W-4 steps, city withholding tables, benefits, and YTD FICA caps.

Do pre-tax 401(k) contributions reduce FICA?

Elective deferrals generally still face Social Security and Medicare. This calculator reduces income-tax wages only.

Tax year?

Tables are encoded for tax year 2026 (federal Rev. Proc. 2025-32 inflation adjustments plus the NY/NYC pack noted on the page).
