Results explained
Ohio spousal support is equitable and discretionary. Judges must consider statutory factors (incomes, relative earning abilities, ages, retirement benefits, marriage duration, standard of living, education, assets/liabilities, contribution as homemaker, and others). Some localities use informal worksheets; none replace the statute. Our model keeps the math visible: a share of the income difference plus a marriage-linked duration sketch.

|---|---|
| Amount model | % of income difference ÷ 12 (default 28%) |

| 10–20 years | ~45% of years married |
| 20+ years | ~55% of years married |

How the estimate is built
Annual sketch = diff% × max(0, payor − recipient). Duration sketch = marriage_years × (0.35 if <10; 0.45 if <20; else 0.55).
Example scenario
Payor $115,000, recipient $45,000, 28% of difference → gap $70,000 → $19,600/year (~$1,633/month). A 13-year marriage → duration sketch about 5.85 years.
FAQ
Does Ohio use the Illinois formula?
No. Do not import 33⅓%/25% into an Ohio case unless both sides agree to use it as a settlement shortcut.
Temporary vs final support?
Temporary orders during the case can differ from final support in the divorce decree. This page is a general planning estimate.
Retirement accounts?
Division of retirement assets and the ability to save going forward are often part of the support story — model property and support together.
Jurisdiction / county differences?
Ohio is statewide statute, but local practice and judicial discretion still matter. Ask counsel about your county.
