How to use this calculator

  1. Enter both incomes on the same annual/monthly basis.
  2. Enter years married.
  3. Set the difference-share percent used for the amount sketch.
  4. Compare the monthly estimate with the modeled duration band for your marriage length.

Results explained

Virginia spousal support considers need, ability to pay, and marriage duration. This tool applies a share of the income difference (default 28%) and scales a duration ceiling with marriage length.

ItemDetail

How the estimate is built

Monthly gap share = diff% × (payor − recipient) ÷ 12. Duration = marriage_years × band factor.

Example scenario

Payor $140,000, recipient $55,000, 28% → $23,800/year (~$1,983/month). Sixteen-year marriage → long-mid band duration ~7.2 years.
