Walls

Wall area (sq ft)
i
Area

Height × width of walls, minus big windows if you want.

Usable sq ft / roll
i
Coverage

U.S. singles are often ~25–30 sq ft after trim; many Euro rolls ~50–56.

Pattern waste (%)
i
Waste

Large repeats need more. 10–20% is a common band.

How to use this calculator

  1. Measure wall area.
  2. Read usable coverage from the roll label (not the printed square feet if it ignores trim).
  3. Raise waste for a big pattern repeat.
  4. Round up — dye lots are hard to match later.

Results explained

Rolls = ceil( area × (1 + waste%) ÷ coverage ). Distinct from wallpaper *installation cost*.

Quick reference: rolls

Always match lot numbers. Buying one extra roll is cheaper than a mismatch.

ItemDetail
U.S. single (typical usable)~30 sq ft
Euro roll (typical usable)~56 sq ft
Small geometricOften ~10% waste
Large mural repeat20%+ waste

Paste-the-wall vs paste-the-paper does not change roll count.

How the estimate is built

Rolls = (sq ft × (1 + waste%)) ÷ usable sq ft per roll, rounded up.

Example scenario

280 sq ft, 15% waste, 30 sq ft/roll → 322 / 30 ≈ 10.7, buy 11 rolls.
