How to use this calculator
- Enter your grade so far.
- Enter the final’s weight as a percent of the course.
- Set the overall target.
- If the needed score is over 100%, the target may be out of reach.
Results explained
needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, with weight as a fraction. GPA pages are separate; this is one course’s percent.
Quick reference: finals
A 20% final cannot rescue a 50% average into a 90 without magic extra credit.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Weight 0% | Final does not count — needed is n/a |
| Already at target | Needed can be below current |
| Curves | Not applied |
| GPA after this | See GPA calculators |
Ask the instructor how they round 89.5 vs 90.
How the estimate is built
needed = (target − current(1 − w)) / w.
Example scenario
82% now, 20% final, target 90% → needed = (90 − 82×0.8) / 0.2 = 122% (out of reach without extra credit).
