Packing leveliPacking DIY packing is free here. Partial covers kitchen and fragile; full scales with home size. | |
Your stateiYour state Scales U.S.-average labor midpoints. Origin/destination pairs and peak season still move quotes a lot. |

Results explained
Local crew and truck form the base. Miles beyond a short local radius add haul; long hauls also sketch inventory handling. Packing and a small fuel surcharge stack on top, then the state multiplier.
Quick reference: move midpoints
U.S.-average planning midpoints before state adjustment.
| Scope | Midpoint |
|---|---|
| Studio local base | $650 |
| 2-bedroom local base | $1,450 |
| 4-bedroom local base | $2,850 |
| Miles beyond ~50 (short haul) | ~$2.40/mi |
| Partial packing (2-br scale) | ~$450 |
| Full packing (2-br scale) | ~$1,100 |
Interstate tariffs, cubic-foot surveys, and peak summer weekends can swing far outside this band.
How the estimate is built
Total ≈ (home-size local base + billable miles × per-mile rate + optional long-haul handling + packing × size scale) × (1 + 4% fuel sketch) × state multiplier.
Example scenario
A 2-bedroom local move of 25 miles with DIY packing is about $1,450 at U.S. average before the small fuel line — still inside the local radius, so no distance haul.
FAQ
Is this a binding estimate?
No. Licensed movers issue non-binding or binding estimates after a survey. Use this for budget order-of-magnitude only.
Do apartments cost more?
Often yes — long carries, elevators, and COI paperwork add labor hours not modeled as separate lines here.
What about storage or packing supplies?
Storage-in-transit and box kits are usually extra. Full packing here is labor, not materials.
