Area (sq ft)
i
Area

Finished surface. Convert L × W if you measured in feet.

Paver width (in)
i
Width

Face width of one paver.

Paver length (in)
i
Length

Face length of one paver.

Joint (in)
i
Joint

Sand joint. Tight joints ~1/8 in; some patterns run 1/4 in.

Waste (%)
i
Waste

Cuts, border, and breakage. 10% is a common adder; diagonals need more.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the patio area.
  2. Set paver face size.
  3. Add the joint width.
  4. Raise waste for diagonals or circles.

Results explained

Each module is (width + joint) × (length + joint) in square feet. Count = area ÷ module, then × waste. Labor dollars belong on the paver installation cost page.

Quick reference: pavers

8×8 modules with a 1/8 in joint cover a bit more than 0.45 sq ft each.

How the estimate is built

module = ((W+j)/12) × ((L+j)/12). order = ceil(area / module × (1+waste%)).

Example scenario

120 sq ft of 8×8 pavers with 1/8 in joints and 10% waste — read the ceil count on the result.
